What is HiAP? Related to SDGs17(Partnerships For the Goal)


  • HiAP stands for Health in All Policies.

  • HiAP is founded on health-related rights and obligations and contributes to strengthening the accountability of policymakers for health impacts at all levels of policy-making. It emphasizes the consequences of public policies on health systems, determinants of health, and well-being. It also contributes to sustainable development.

  • HiAP is an approach to public policies across sectors that systematically takes into account the health implications of decisions, seeks synergies, and avoids harmful health impacts in order to improve population health and health equity. As a concept, reflects the principles: legitimacy, accountability, transparency and access to information, participation, sustainability, and collaboration across sectors and levels of government.

  • Each country has different level and situation for considering for a healthier society. Based on each situation, each country needs to consider the structure of organization for initiations, overviewing the situation of health and society for implementations, and ensuring sustainability of mechanisms according to HiAP approach.

  • Therefore, political commitment and leadership is so important to proceed the social Determinants of Health, and to provide solutions appropriately in accordance with the situation of each country. SDGs 17specially references the need for governments to enhance policy coherence for sustainable development.
